How do I bill a finished job?
Click Invoice on the finished job, or go to Invoices › New invoice and pick the job. The invoice takes the job's price and lines.
The fastest way: click Invoice on the finished job. The invoice is made from the job's price, and the job shows its invoice number. To check the lines first, go to Invoices › New invoice and pick the job.
Also called: invoice a job, bill the customer, close out a job, facturer un travail, faire la facture, facturation, travaux terminés, job
Step 1: Pick the job to bill
Open Invoices and click New invoice. Under Finished jobs, not billed yet, you see each done job with its customer, when it was finished and its price. Click the job.
From a customer's record, click New › Invoice to see only their jobs.
Click: Invoices › New invoice › the job
Step 2: Check the lines
The invoice starts with the lines of the quote the job came from. A job without a quote gets one line with its title and price. Change a line, add one with Add a line, or pick one of your prices with From my prices. Click Create the invoice.
Click: Create the invoice
Step 3: Send it or open it
You see "Invoice #… created" with the customer and the total, "Not sent yet." Click "Send to" the customer to see the email before it goes, or View the invoice to open it on its own page. Made a mistake? Click Undo to delete it.
Click: Send to … › Send the invoice
Step 4: Or bill it from the job
On the job's page, click Invoice with the amount once it's done (the main button, in the bottom bar on a phone). If it isn't done yet, Finish and invoice marks it done and bills it in one click. A message confirms "Invoice #… created", with Undo. The job then shows "Invoiced:" with the number at the top of its right column; click it to open the invoice.
Click: the job › Finish and invoice
Good to know
A job from a quote already has the taxes in its price (the quote's total), so left as is, the invoice is that price. A price you typed on the job yourself is before taxes: the invoice adds GST and QST to it (a $500 job is billed $574.88). If you change the lines, the total is worked out again from them, with GST and QST.
A maintenance plan on the quote is not billed with the job.
A job is billed once. A second try opens the invoice it already has.
The invoice's due date comes from your payment terms.
The page your customer opens to pay shows the subtotal, GST and QST above the total.
If Invoice ready is on in Settings › Automations › Messages to customers, the customer gets it a minute after the invoice is made.
You can ask Ask Alori: "Bill the Chen job."
If it doesn't work
"Already invoiced: #…" This job already has that invoice. Open it from Invoices.
Create the invoice is greyed out. A line has no description or a quantity of 0, or the total is $0. Fix the line.
"That didn't work. Try again." The invoice wasn't made. Try again in a moment.
