How do I split a project into milestones?

Open the project, type a step under Milestones and press Enter. Give it a target date, then put tickets in it from the ticket's Milestone.

Updated November 3, 2026

Milestones split a project into steps, like Design, Work and Handover. Each one has a target date and shows how many of its tickets are done.

Also called: milestone, phase, stage of a project, deliverable, jalon, étape, phase du projet

Step 1: Add the milestones

Open Tasks › Projects and click the project. Under Milestones, type a name in Add a milestone and press Enter. Add as many as you need, then pick a Target date for each. The arrows put them in order; the bin deletes one.

Click: Tasks › Projects › a project › Add a milestone

Step 2: Put tickets in a milestone

Open a ticket of the project and pick its Milestone on the right. On the project's page, Tickets are then grouped by milestone, in order.

Good to know

  • The bar beside a milestone counts its closed tickets out of all of them. A cancelled ticket doesn't count.

  • Milestones with a date show as marks on the project's bar in the timeline. See How do I see my projects on a timeline?

  • Moving a ticket to another project takes it out of its milestone.

  • Deleting a milestone keeps its tickets in the project, in no milestone.

  • In Tickets, Display › Grouping › Milestone groups any list the same way.

  • Importing from Linear brings its project milestones along.

  • You can ask Ask Sam: "add a Handover milestone to the Benali renovation, due December 12" or "put SUP-14 in Handover".

If it doesn't work

  • No Milestones on the project's page? Milestones hold tickets: add Tickets to your app first.

  • "A project has 30 milestones at most." Delete one you don't use.

  • The ticket has no Milestone field. Put it in a project first.
